~Lucky in Love 2014~ {K&C Vegas Wedding} Kimberly Sisk Photography [Southeast Metro Detroit]

When is a job not a job?  When you get to photograph a celebration of love.  I have had the pleasure of knowing Kathy and Cisco for many years, so when she asked me to be her wedding photographer I was ecstatic, and honestly a bit nervous.  As a bit of a perfectionist, those who know me will understand my sarcasm, I hoped I would reach the couples expectations and then go a step beyond.  That is always my goal, yet when you know the clients it becomes double the pressure.

Walking into the reception hall before any guests had arrived I let the bright reds and the contrasting blacks soak in.  The tables had a playful theme of casino chips, a key chain favor decorated with card suits, on top of a red table cloth.  Immediately I felt as though I had been transported to Vegas and was sitting at a favorite gaming table.  The center pieces fit the theme beautifully, simple see through vases, with a single red floating flower, that would naturally lend to the guests being able to interact.  It was the perfect way to take their guests on a destination wedding without actually going.

Having begun their journey years ago, they planned a destination wedding.  On April 14th they sealed the deal in fabulous Las Vegas.  Although only a few people were able to join them for this amazing trip, a reception hall full of family and friends helped Kathy and Cisco celebrate their love.

The glow on the couples face as they greeted friends and family was genuinely heartwarming.  They both share a love of bowling, and it seemed the room was filled with the extended circle of people who had known each other, and had met through the mutual past time.  This was a true party, full of laughter, memories and love.

It is my sincerest hope that Kathy and Cisco enjoy many more years of love.  Filling their life together with memories and laughter.

[Maternity Session]

2013

Maternity shots have been on my wish list for quite a while and when I was approached to take some I was happy to agree.

So we met up at Georges Georges Park, and I must say the location was great.

I had never shot there before, but it was definitely a photographers paradise.

My son Mike is engaged to Nikki’s sister Emily, so they joined me for the session as well as my 8 yr old son.

So it was quite the group wandering the park and goofing around.

This made for a loose and fun session with the couple and for some fun out-takes which I will share.mike and zack golfing mike goofing off

Even with all the goof balls messing around we managed to have a great time and get some great images.

I hope Nikki and Blayne will always treasure the images from this day.

Good luck with the new baby, can’t wait to meet him/her. >3

Shelby and Jennifer

Jennifer contacted me several months ago to get a session done with her dog Shelby.

It took us a while to connect simply because Michigan’s Spring just did not want to cooperate.

blog 2

Shelby is 13 years young and has been battling kidney disease.

With lots of love and great care from Jennifer her disease has slowed a bit and given them more time together.

It is obvious that they are bonded together.

She was adopted by Jennifer at 5 so they have grown to love each other for the past 8 years.

This session was so relaxing and fun.

We took our time wandering Lake Erie Metro Park letting Shelby set the pace, we didn’t want to push her to hard.

For a dog of advanced years, who hasn’t felt good she showed incredible stamina and spunk.

I just loved watching how Shelby depends on Jennifer, watching her, wagging her tail and sticking by her side.

Anyone who has loved a pet has felt that undeniable, ultimate love and adoration they give you.

Given with pure hearts…unconditional.

Always happy to see us when we walk through the door.

Lay at our feet, jump in our laps, or snuggle on the couch.

I believe that no matter how much time we have with our furry friends they are forever with us…

forever in our hearts.

It was a unique pleasure to spend time with Jennifer and Shelby and to see the love between them.

Little Miss Allison was five days young when I had the pleasure of photographing her for the first time.  I arrived toting the usual five arm loads full of all my gear.  Anyone who has seen or done a newborn shoot can relate to how much set up time you have to allow for and how much stuff you can cart around.  By the time I set up my backdrops, lighting and got all my props set up it was about 1/2 hour later.  Which actually isn’t too bad, lol.  I am getting more efficient.

Allison was such a sweet little lady.  And super curious…to the point she did not want to sleep.  I assured Mom it was o.k. and worked very hard the next couple of hours to steal a few shots here and there, slowly wearing her down enough that she would just give in and let me work with her.  About two hours into the shoot she finally decided she was just to tired to keep checking everything out and was being a great little model.

Unfortunately Allison was fighting a bit of Jaundice, and the doctor called mid-session to tell Mom and Dad that they needed to bring her back in for some more blood work.  They wanted to be sure everything was o.k. for her.  Of course with babies health coming first we decided I would check out my images and possibly come back for a second shoot.  I packed up in record time and they carted Allison off to the testing.

I waited anxiously that evening for a text from Mom to be sure she was o.k. and did get the good word that she was back home.  Allison was such a trooper through the whole ordeal. 🙂

After looking through my images I felt confident I had enough shots to make her session a success, but decided I would offer a lifestyle shoot as a way of adding to the experience since it didn’t work out like we had planned.  I am so happy I took the time for a short session and did the images.  It was another hour of fun with Allison, and again she was full of curiosity following the camera and me as I took her pictures.  Super alert for a week old baby, and such a fun shoot it was!  She did great and waited to fuss until I was packing up, as if she was mad that she couldn’t be the baby Diva anymore.

Newborn shoots are the hardest type of session, yet give the most rewards.  I love being able to snuggle with the baby, gently rocking and soothing and working with them to get a great pose.  Of course the goal of newborn photography is to have them asleep and relaxed, but sometimes you just have to go with the flow…and during the lifestyle shoot you catch what is happening naturally.  It was very relaxing just enjoying the baby and taking images for the family to last a lifetime, to be handed down generations.

I am so glad that the Fairbanks trusted me to take Allison’s newborn shots.  It’s a wonderful new beginning to a beautiful life, and they chose me to document that special moment in their life.

Thanks for sharing Allison with me.

We waited for what seemed like an eternity to get Kylie’s session in.

The weather here in Michigan just did not want to cooperate.

When it did, wow!

Kylie just rocked out her Senior shoot.

We took loads of pictures in several places all around Elizabeth Park in Trenton shooting until it got to dark to keep going.

The light that night made for some amazing opportunities and her natural beauty came through.

I just love her freckles!

Kylie is a busy young lady who holds down a full time job as a lifeguard.

She is also an extremely talented artist who won the “Principles Award” for her High Schools Senior Art Show this spring.

Her plans include attending college in the fall.

Whatever she decides to make her goal for the future I have no doubts that she will be very successful.

Congratulations!!!

We shot Kyle’s session on one of the rare warm sunny spring days of Michigan.

It has been hard this year getting the right conditions for a shoot.

We met at Heritage Park in Taylor, Michigan and began walking the park looking for those special places to get the best light and shots set  up.

Kyle was quiet and reserved, with a quicksilver smile that went straight to his eyes.

His ease and even mannered temperament made the shoot go quickly.

As we walked the park and shot images he shared His plans for the future.

His eyes lit up with anticipation as he talked about how  he was joining the the Army and would leave for basic training after graduation.

He is eager, ready, and at ease, on his way to becoming a man.

I was very proud to have met Kyle, and make his Senior pictures for his family to commemorate his accomplishments.

I will think of him often over the summer wondering how his next step in life becomes reality.

You had me at the bagpipes…seriously.

44

At my age I have been to so many weddings.  I can count on one hand how many I remember because it was that amazing.

Don and Halley just took first place.

A sense of rightness floated throughout the church.  Simple, airy and light, it danced on the light peeking through the stained glass windows.  Those sweet notes, simple hints of true love, went beyond the fact that the Church was exquisite, {St. Patricks of Wyandotte, Mi.}, and that the sun had graced us even though Michigan’s spring was nowhere to be found.

Halley was glowing, and reserved.  Barely holding back tears she caught quiet moments with her family, preparing to walk down the aisle.

Don was nothing short of magnificent in his kilt, full of nervous energy blowing off steam with his groomsmen.

The air began to still, that feeling hanging in the silence as Don waited for Halley to walk down the aisle…and then the bagpipes began to play.  It was as if the air twirled and played with the hair on the back of your neck and arms…goose bumps rose as the hauntingly beautiful notes floated through the church.

Magical

Timeless

That Fairytale Moment

And so it went throughout the ceremony.  The Priest, father Michael, was just as precious.  He pulled you into the ceremony and made everyone believe.  Two became One, lead out of the Church by the pipes, with the same feeling as the notes carried everyone away on the wings of celebration.

02

Now as for the limo ‘bus’ celebration between the wedding and the reception…all I can say is “What happens on the bus, stays on the bus.”  A fun time was had by all and we managed to snag a few cool pictures along the way.

47

Oh, and ‘that’ feeling?  Yup, still going on, right on through the reception…

01

Speeches so good there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

A priest who sang to the couple…seriously…

54

Don and Halley sharing looks, kisses to the clangs, and of course their first dance as husband and wife.

I have a strong feeling that the Fairytale, magical moments of this day will carry them through a lifetime together.
